kindle cover tutorial

i'm not so sure if this does qualify as a tutorial since i did omit a few pictures in the middle. since i neglected to take them. my first tutorial, forgive me, crafting peeps.

first, take an assistant.

have that assistant check the quality of the material.

lay double the fabric you're using and find the width that will fit your kindle snugly, leaving one seam allowance on the folded side and two on the other. [boy, this is a seriously detailed tutorial.]

make sure the sleeve that shall become the cover is long enough to cover the kindle length twice and still leave a closing flap at the top.

then cut your fabric to the folded size. imagine pictures here. [does that work for you? yeah yeah, i know. better next time.] sew around one end creating a thinner, angled part [see below], and down the long side that's not folded. leave bottom open. turn inside out.

cut a strap of quilt batting roughly in the shape of the sleeve, about half an inch shorter and thinner on each side. no, make that a quarter inch. here you can see the batting, uncut. carefully fumble that into the sleeve, nice and flat, fold the open edges in and sew shut.

now fold the blunt end up one-kindle-length and lay a piece of rubber band [i think in sewing it might be called something else. anyone? bueller?] in between, about an inch from the edge, cut ends poking out. pull the band a little so it's not loose on the inside that shall become the outside. sew one seam on the left, one seam on the right.

now turn it inside-is-the-new-outside out and voila!

happy birthday, hubby!
